Four Questions

  1. Is it true?
  2. Can you absolutely know that it’s true?
  3. How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
  4. Who would you be without the thought?

Turn the thought around.

e.g. Paul doesn’t listen to me

a) to the self (I don’t listen to me)
b) to the other (I don’t listen to Paul)
c) to the opposite (Paul does listen to me)

And find three specific, genuine examples of how each turnaround is true in your life.

Happy New Year 2012

Today is the first day of the Jewish New Year.  According to traditional Judaism this is the time that God decides who will live and who will die during the coming year.  Humanistic Judaism rejects the concept of judgement by a deity, but keeps the concept of judgement.  The New Year becomes a time to reflect on the past year. We are challenged to use this time for self-judgement, to make amends, to work on forgiving ourselves and others, and to create the intention to strive to be a better person in the year to come. We are invited to use the New Year as a time for renewal of self and spirit.  L’Shana Tova.  May this be a good and sweet year for us all!
